The personal trainer talks workout wear, travel tricks and the perfect cup of tea
World-famous personal trainer and entrepreneur Kayla Itsines
I’m never not in a sports bra – they are the most comfortable things ever. I have six in my drawer at home, but in my warehouse, where we have a rail of clothes for filming workout videos, there are 40 or 50.
I drink Tummy Tea every evening while I watch TV as it helps me unwind. It has everything to soothe my digestion – liquorice, peppermint, fennel – and helps with monthly stomach cramps, which I’m prone to. My iPhone and Apple Watch are portals to my 8.8 million Instagram followers and to my Sweat app, with ‘Bikini Body Guide’ workouts. The watch makes it easy to keep track of my routines and my phone screensaver is a great photo of my boyfriend Tobi.
I don’t often have photos taken with my grandparents, Evangelia and Yanni, as they worry that I’ll embarrass them online. But I got this when they surprised me at my first book signing. They were so proud. My Siberian huskies Ace and Junior are my babies. They make me laugh and every morning they jump on my bed and give me a cuddle. Ace often howls, and Junior sits on his bottom with his front paws up when he wants my attention.
I had never travelled before I started my fitness business, but now I’m away for about six months of the year meeting communities of women I’ve never met before, but who know me so well from my online workout guides. I love looking at my passport and seeing how many places I’ve been to.
After my Siberian husky TJ passed away last year, my friend Kelsey had this necklace made with his name on it to remember him by. It made me cry.
Being from Adelaide, Australia, I hate the cold so I bring my lavender wheat bag with me whenever I travel to cold countries. I heat it up in the microwave and it soothes muscle soreness after a workout. My skin is constantly exposed to air-conditioning at home (Tobi sleeps with it on every night) and when I’m flying, so I get through loads of hydrating serums. My favourites are B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel by Drunk Elephant and O-Biotics by O Cosmedics.
