Free toothbrush event raises awareness for kid's dental health

BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX) – February is National Children’s Dental Health Month and a local dentist is hoping to bring awareness to the importance of getting kids on the right path to healthy smiles.

From 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 16th MajorSmiles in Bryan will be giving away free toothbrushes and refreshments to celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month.

“You know it’s very difficult sometimes to try and combat that ‘I don’t need to brush my teeth, they are baby teeth’ mentality, but we try to make it fun for them! Maybe sometimes it’s good to make a game out of it and having fun with it and trying to make the kids understand how important their teeth are,” explained Theresa Foreman, a dentist at MajorSmiles.

Foreman suggested having a child brush their teeth for the duration of their favorite song.

Chuck Majors, DDS at Major Smiles, gave some advice in the situation of a knocked out tooth. He says that you should take the tooth, put it in milk to clean it off and then put it back in the socket as quickly as you can. You have about twenty minutes to get to a dentist so that they have the best chance of saving the tooth.

MajorSmiles is located at 2606 Osler Boulevard in Bryan.
