Katie Piper weight loss: The Healthy Happy Mum Plan author reveals how she lost TWO stone
Katie Piper gave birth to her second daughter, Penelope, in December 2017 and has already lost an impressive two stone as she continues to get her fitness regime back on track.
The mum of two has had a lifestyle overhaul, and it hasn’t only benefited her but also her husband James Sutton and their daughters Belle, four, and Penelope, six months.
She has now launched The Healthy Happy Mum Plan with the help of Terri Ann Nunns and has shared her weight loss secrets for busy mums.
OK! Online spoke exclusively to Katie Piper about her lifestyle change and she told us her top tips for new mums in getting their health and fitness back on track after giving birth.
Don’t rush into losing weight
Katie explained she took a long time to feel ready to return to exercising, telling us: “Feeling ready [to return to exercise] is definitely not immediate, your body has gone through such a big change. I didn’t feel like I had to be slim straight after giving birth and everyone knows you’ve had a baby.”

She added: “I felt rubbish, horrendous when I started exercising again I was so out of shape, my stomach was wobbling as I was running, it was horrible. But every journey you have to start at the bottom, and the best thing about starting at the bottom is it’s never going to get worse than this.”
After getting the sign-off from her doctor, Katie started with low impact exercises, doing lunges, squats and some ab workouts on the carpet in the living room while her baby was in the bouncy chair.
Be mindful during mealtimes
The Healthy Happy Mum Plan works by eating within an eight hour window and consuming 1,500 calories a day.
The model explained: “At family mealtimes at about 5.30pm I’m cooking one thing for all of us, I’m not cooking diet food. I cook one meal for all of us to enjoy together, instead of me sitting there scrolling through Instagram or watching TV, and then that’s it I shut the kitchen up.”
Incorporate the kids into your workouts
Katie tries to combine her workouts with her children’s play time.
She said: “At the weekend at the park with Belle, I’d wear my gym kit instead of jeans and I’d sprint around and run around with Belle.
“She didn’t see it as, ‘Mummy’s gone to the gym’, she saw it as, ‘Mummy’s taking me to the park’. It’s nice because then you don’t have that mum guilt.”
Make the most of ‘me’ time
The TV presenter insists any alone time a new mum gets is the perfect time for working out, not only for the physical benefits but for the mental health benefits too.
Katie advises: “If I did have an hour to myself, while their dad’s at home for example, I’d think I am actually going to go to the gym, or put my headphones in and go for a run – that’s my ‘me’ time. Because I need to be me and give the best me for my husband and our children, so to do stuff that is for me means I can give back to them.”
The 34 year old is adamant weight loss should never be about “getting skinny”, adding: “It’s about getting fit so I can have fun with and be healthy for my children.”
