PepsiCo is buying plant-based nutritional bar maker Health Warrior as the beverage and snack giant presses deeper into good-for-you products.

Founded in 2011, Health Warrior makes nutritional bars with natural ingredients such as chia and pumpkin seeds. It also makes a range of other healthy products, such as protein powder.

For PepsiCo, maker of Doritos and Mountain Dew, the deal furthers the company’s evolution into healthier items as customers increasingly demand alternatives to sugary beverages and junk food.

The company has also pledged to cut the amount of fat, salt and sugar in its products over the next several years.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the innovative Health Warrior brand to the PepsiCo family,” said Al Carey, CEO of PepsiCo North America, in a statement. “We continue to position ourselves at the forefront of changing consumer preferences and trends. This acquisition helps us increase our presence in the nutrition bar category, which is an attractive growth space.”
