Sargasso and Bliss Yoga partner to offer healthy eating program

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – It’s the start of a new year and many people are planning to make changes to better their health. A local restaurant in Morgantown is partnering with a yoga teacher to guide individuals in a healthy eating plan. 

The Bliss/ Sargasso 21 day Clean Program is back for the fifth year in a row. This is based on the best-selling book, Clean, by Dr. Alejandro Junger.

This is an exercise in mindful eating which allows participants to examine their current relationship to the foods they are eating, and how those foods impact mental, physical and spiritual health.

“It eliminates most of the allergens that people suffer from, but then also foods that may cause internal inflamation, or bloating, gas, and if you have a chronic health condition, your doctors probably already recommended that you eat in this way,” said Rebecca Herod, organizer. 

All meals are vegan, gluten-free, sugar-free,soy free, peanut free and contain no nightshade vegetables.

“It’s actually quite the challenge because two of my favorite ingredients, tomatoes and peppers, are not allowed. So, it’s a challenge sometimes to make it nice and flavorful, but we’ve gotten a lot of practice over the years with it and we’ve been using a lot of ingredients that are compliant some of the things are things that people would not necessarily be able to buy in the store,” said Thomas Metzler, Chef at Sargasso. 

Meals are all prepared at Sargasso, with pickups being on Wednesdays and Sundays. This includes six lunches and six soups for dinner per week.

“Meal prep is a big deal, very time consuming, especially if you have a professional job, or you are busy with your family. So this kind of like takes that time consumption out of your day and you just come here and you pick up delicious food, and you take it home, and so it enables you to try this plan without having to put in like all of that personal time,” Carissa Herman, Sargasso Marketing Coordinator.
